Oak & Acorn author Raewyn Orlich launched her new book In Grandpa’s Shoes on January 13, 2024, at the Sierra Vista Chapel of the La Sierra University Church. A highlight of the gathering was the presence of her 96-year-old grandpa, Eric Webster—the inspiration for the book. He joined her to share stories and anecdotes, and after sundown he sat next to her signing copies of the book.
Pastor Orlich serves as associate pastor for discipleship and nurture at the La Sierra University church in Riverside, California, and has had this book idea for several years.

Ivan Blazen, renowned Adventist theologian, passed to his rest on December 4, 2023, in Loma Linda, California. He was 89 years old. Dr. Blazen was a true scholar and a man of faith who dedicated his life to the study and teaching of the Bible. Dr. Blazen was one of the preeminent New Testament scholars of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He had an unquenchable desire for knowledge and a fierce love of his students. His greatest passion was teaching others about the gospel and salvation through Jesus Christ. Dr. Blazen's insights continue to inspire through his written and recorded words.

Pioneer Adventist chaplain Herman L. Kibble died on December 27, 2023, in Pasadena, California. He was 92 years old. A pastor in the Southern California Conference for many years, Elder Kibble decided to shift his career in 1969 and began officer’s training to become a U.S. Navy chaplain. He served in the Navy for 23 years in a variety of duty stations, including two tours in Vietnam and in the Persian Gulf and Antarctica.
Kibble was the first Seventh-day Adventist to serve as head chaplain for an entire U.S. Navy carrier battle group. He shares with Richard Stenbakken the distinction of being the first Adventist chaplains to be promoted to rank O-6 (second highest rank) in the military.
Herman Kibble’s memorial service will take place February 11, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Altadena SDA church. It will be livestreamed and you may read his obituary from adventistreview.org.
