The Spring Executive Committee of the Pacific Union Conference met at La Sierra University on May 18, 2022. The members come from all across the union’s geography to help develop and direct the work of the church in the Pacific Southwest. The members include lay members and employees, and the membership demonstrates the great diversity of the Adventist Church in our region. The spirit in the room was upbeat and positive as members first greeted each other, and then worshipped and prayed together under the leadership of Elder Bradford Newton, the President of the Pacific Union. Then the members got down to the work of receiving reports, discussing the wide variety of work that is carried out within the Pacific Union and acting on the items and recommendations brought to the committee.
Memorial Day is Monday, May 30. It is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering those who served in the U.S. military who are no longer living. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day to honor the sacrifices made by so many in defense of our freedom, and to mourn loved ones. Many volunteers place an American flag on graves of military personnel in national cemeteries.

We feature the USS Arizona Memorial in this week’s episode. The USS Arizona, at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii, marks the resting place of 1,102 of the 1,177 sailors and Marines killed on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and commemorates the events of that day.
The memorial, built in 1962, is visited by more than two million people annually. Accessible only by boat, it straddles the sunken hull of the battleship without touching it. The USS Arizona Memorial is one of several sites in Hawaii that are part of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial.

A day is coming when there will be no more war, no more tears and sorrow, no pandemics, and no pain. Revelation 21:4 says it best: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (KJV)
Until that day, may we live each day with the knowledge that God has a plan and purpose for our lives.
