The Supreme Court delivered an historic win for workers whose faith conflicts with otherwise valid non-discriminatory work rules. The vote on June 29, 2023, was unanimous – all nine judges joining the
opinion.
The legal team representing Gerald Groff included Adventist attorney Alan Reinach, who serves as director of public affairs and religious liberty for the Pacific Union Conference and executive director of the Church State Council.
We interviewed Alan Reinach and three other individuals involved in religious liberty for the Seventh-day Adventist church:
Bill Knott, the associate director of public affairs and religious liberty for the General Conference; Bettina Krause, the editor of Liberty Magazine; and Orlan Johnson, the director of public affairs and religious liberty for the North American Division. All four shared why this case is so significant to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and what we have learned from it.
