Emigdio Gamez wanted to start a Pathfinder Club. He had loved being a Pathfinder in Nicaragua when he was growing up, and he wanted the same experience for his kids. Although he had the desire, he didn’t know where to start. That changed in the summer of 2022 when the Nevada-Utah Conference held a training session for those interested in starting a Pathfinder Club.
Emigdio decided to go, along with another parent, Dionna Etuati, and their pastor, Emmanuel LaPorte. With the support of Pastor LaPorte, they excitedly shared the idea with other families in the church. Following several planning sessions, the Susanville Fireproof Pathfinder Club began with eight Pathfinders and seven leaders.
With inexperienced leadership, there was a lot of trial and error. However, the kids were excited and prepared for the Pathfinder induction. Most of the Pathfinders took a role in the presentation. They were nervous! Many of them had never done anything like that in front of church before.
On the day of the induction ceremony, the Pathfinders walked into the sanctuary dressed in their Class A uniforms. The congregation lit up seeing them. Even though they were nervous, the kids played their parts wonderfully. Even when there was a mishap, the church members displayed grace and support. The service was a success! When the Pathfinders left the church that day, they were greeted with hugs, handshakes, and love from their church family.
After that, a change was noted within the club. Although most of the Pathfinders had grown up together and attended Susanville Adventist Christian School together, the club brought them closer and gave them more confidence. Bobi Tucker, one of the leaders, said, “As a teacher at the school where most of our group attends, I was surprised to see that Pathfinders has created a sense of unity for our kids that I haven't seen before. They function more like a cohesive group, whether at Pathfinder meetings or at school. It's a beautiful thing to see.”
Over the next few months, the group worked on honors, classwork, and outreach while learning more about God. Not only were they growing closer to God at Pathfinders, they were also taking Bible studies with Pastor LaPorte at home and at school. In March, all eight Pathfinders decided to be baptized. Finally, on June 3, in Antelope Lake, surrounded by loved ones and the church family that had supported them, they were baptized.
Although the decision to start the club seemed like a small thing at the time, none of the families who stepped up in leadership roles could have predicted the effect Pathfinders would have on those kids, themselves, and the church. Elioenai Gamez, one of the members of the club, said, “Pathfinders has made my friendships stronger. It has made my faith in God stronger.” Myli Tucker, another member, added, “I enjoy Pathfinders. I’ve learned a lot and made good friends. I’m so glad I got to be baptized with some of my best friends.”

Pequeña decisión, gran impacto
Emigdio Gamez quería comenzar un Club de Conquistadores. Le había encantado ser un Conquistador en Nicaragua cuando estaba creciendo y quería la misma experiencia para sus hijos. Eso cambió en el verano de 2022 cuando la Nevada-Utah Conference celebró una sesión de capacitación para aquellos interesados en comenzar un Club de Conquistadores.
Emigdio decidió ir, junto con otro padre, Dionna Etuati, y su pastor, Emmanuel LaPorte. Con el apoyo de LaPorte, compartieron con entusiasmo la idea con otras familias de la iglesia. Después de varias sesiones de planificación, el Susanville Fireproof Pathfinder Club comenzó con ocho Conquistadores y siete líderes.
Con un liderazgo inexperto, hubo muchas pruebas y errores. Sin embargo, los niños estaban emocionados y preparados para la inducción de Conquistador. La mayoría de los Conquistadores tomaron un papel en la presentación. ¡Estaban nerviosos! Muchos de ellos nunca antes habían hecho algo así frente a la iglesia.
El día de la ceremonia de inducción, los Conquistadores entraron al santuario vestidos con sus uniformes de Clase A. La congregación se emocionó al verlos. A pesar de que estaban nerviosos, los niños desempeñaron sus papeles maravillosamente. Incluso cuando hubo un percance, los miembros de la iglesia mostraron gracia y apoyo. ¡El servicio fue un éxito! Cuando los Conquistadores salieron de la iglesia ese día, fueron recibidos con abrazos, apretones de manos y el amor de su iglesia.
Después de eso, se notó un cambio dentro del club. Aunque la mayoría de los Conquistadores habían crecido juntos y asistieron juntos a la Susanville Adventist Christian School, el club los acercó y les dio más confianza. Bobi Tucker, uno de los líderes, dijo: «Como maestro en la escuela donde asiste la mayoría de nuestro grupo, me sorprendió ver que el Club de Conquistadores ha creado un sentido de unidad para nuestros hijos que no había visto antes. Funcionan más como un grupo cohesivo, ya sea en las reuniones de Conquistadores o en la escuela. Es algo hermoso de ver».
Durante los siguientes meses, el grupo trabajó en honores, trabajo en clase mientras aprendía más acerca de Dios. No solo se estaban acercando más a Dios en el Club de Conquistadores, sino que también estaban recibiendo estudios bíblicos del pastor LaPorte en casa y en la escuela. En marzo, los ocho Conquistadores decidieron bautizarse. Finalmente, el 3 de junio, en Antelope Lake, rodeados de seres queridos y miembros de la iglesia que los había apoyado, fueron bautizados.
Aunque la decisión de comenzar el club parecía algo pequeño en ese momento, ninguna de las familias que asumieron roles de liderazgo podría haber predicho el efecto que el Club de Conquistadores tendrían en esos niños, en ellos mismos y en la iglesia. Elioenai Gamez, uno de los miembros del club, dijo: «El Club de Conquistadores han fortalecido mis amistades. Han fortalecido mi fe en Dios». Myli Tucker, otra miembro, agregó: «Disfruto de los Conquistadores. He aprendido mucho y he hecho buenos amigos. Estoy muy contenta de haber sido bautizada con algunos de mis mejores amigos».
