From January 8 to 11, pastors from across the Hawaiian Islands came together on Kauai for a pastors’ retreat. This retreat is held every year and gives a wonderful opportunity for our church leaders to worship and rest together while also learning new and valuable things about ministry. As Pastor Ramel Ramos from the Lahaina church said, “We were refreshed not only spiritually but also mentally and physically.”
Pastor Roy Ice came from Loma Linda, California, to speak for the retreat, and he offered many valuable insights from his time running the Bible Lab. The Bible Lab is a unique way to study the Bible that was started in Southern California by Pastor Ice. The group’s mission statement is “to research the Bible to find God's authentic character, and to fall in love with Him even more in the process of discovery.”1 The way they do this is through interactive studies of the Bible that encourage people to answer difficult questions without the fear of being told they are wrong.
Many of the pastors found this way of studying the Bible to be both very simple and extremely thought provoking, and they were even learning many new things themselves. “This group of pastors were learning in this Bible study,” said Jayden Anggormas. “They weren’t just learning what the Bible had to say but also how to present it to others in such a simple way.”
Jayden is the intern ministry leader at Aiea church, and this retreat was a great learning experience for him. “I came to the retreat with expectations that it might not apply to me but that I could at least enjoy the relaxation,” shared Jayden, “However, as soon as Roy Ice began talking, I knew it was going to be good. I loved how he always asked us questions that prompted us to process our beliefs and understandings of the gospel. He never said your answer was wrong or that it was right. He would just ask what Scripture says about it.”
Everyone who attended the pastors’ retreat this year left the experience well rested and highly blessed. After a year of leading their congregations, every pastor there was happy for the time they had to rest, commune, and share encouragement with one another. “We have to bear each other's burdens as ministers of the gospel,” said Ramos. Retreats like this one offer incredible opportunities for pastors both young and old to become better at sharing the good news of the gospel with everyone.

Retiro de pastores en Kauai ofrece descanso y discernimiento
Del 8 al 11 de enero, pastores de todas las islas hawaianas se reunieron en Kauai para un retiro de pastores. Ese retiro se lleva a cabo todos los años y brinda una maravillosa oportunidad para que los líderes de la iglesia adoren y descansen mientras aprenden cosas nuevas y valiosas sobre el ministerio. Como dijo el pastor Ramel Ramos de la iglesia Lahaina: «Fuimos renovados no solo espiritualmente, sino también mental y físicamente».
El pastor Roy Ice vino desde Loma Linda, California, para hablar en el retiro, y ofreció muchas ideas valiosas de su tiempo dirigiendo el Laboratorio Bíblico. El Laboratorio Bíblico es una forma especial de estudiar la Biblia que fue iniciado en el sur de California por el pastor Ice. La misión del grupo es «investigar la Biblia para encontrar el carácter auténtico de Dios, y enamorarse de él aún más en el proceso de descubrimiento»* La forma como lo hacen es a través de estudios interactivos de la Biblia que animan a las personas a responder preguntas difíciles sin temor a que les digan que están equivocadas.
Muchos de los pastores encontraron que esa forma de estudiar la Biblia era muy sencilla y extremadamente estimulante, e incluso estaban aprendiendo muchas cosas nuevas. «Ese grupo de pastores estaba aprendiendo en ese estudio bíblico», dijo Jayden Anggormas. «No solo aprendían lo que la Biblia tenía que decir, sino también cómo presentarla a los demás de una manera sencilla».
Jayden es el líder del ministerio interno en la iglesia Aiea y ese retiro fue una gran experiencia de aprendizaje para él. «Llegué al retiro con expectativas de que tal vez no se aplicara a mí, pero que al menos podría disfrutar de la relajación», compartió Jayden. «Sin embargo, tan pronto como Roy Ice comenzó a hablar, supe que iba a ser bueno. Me encantó cómo siempre nos hacía preguntas que nos impulsaban a procesar nuestras creencias y comprensión del Evangelio. Nunca dijo que su respuesta era incorrecta o que era correcta. Solo preguntaba lo que las Escrituras dicen al respecto».
Todos los que asistieron al retiro de pastores este año salieron de la experiencia bien descansados y muy bendecidos. Después de un año de liderar sus congregaciones, todos los pastores estaban felices por el tiempo que tenían para descansar, comulgar y compartir aliento unos con otros. «Tenemos que llevar las cargas de los demás como ministros del evangelio», dijo Ramos. Retiros como ese ofrecen oportunidades increíbles para que los pastores, tanto jóvenes como mayores, sean mejores para compartir las buenas nuevas del evangelio con todos.
