Hundreds of people gathered this spring for a creative showcase for the third Southern California Conference (SCC) One House arts and music festival at the Temple City church. “Our goal for this event is simply to allow a safe space for young adult creatives to display their gifts and talents,” shared Geoff Sewell, SCC senior youth and young adult ministries director.
An unexpected rainstorm threatened to derail the event an hour before it was set to begin, but teamwork brought plan B to life. “The whole team flew into action with the help of some of the event attendees,” Sewell recalled. “What took hours to set up, they tore down and reset inside the fellowship hall.” Sewell also recognized Temple City church pastor Brett Poynter and church member Teddy Raffijandi, who were instrumental in helping move everything indoors and reset the entire venue.
Inside the fellowship hall, attendees and participants enjoyed good food, uplifting music, and creative art. The event highlighted many local small businesses, musicians, and artists, offering Christian creatives an opportunity to showcase their God-given talents.
Jesús Noland, a video game designer who hosted a booth where attendees could play a game he created, expressed his gratefulness for the event. “I think it’s awesome that I got the opportunity to show what I create in the Adventist Christian space,” he shared. “Having an event like this means a lot, it really does. It goes a long way to keep me connected to this community, and it definitely allows me to show a different side of myself than what I usually show as myself on a Sabbath. That’s very powerful and very helpful for me to continue to stay connected to the church.”
“These types of creatives usually keep their talents to themselves because the ‘church’ doesn't really know what to do with these things,” Sewell noted. “But God does! The arts and music festival gives a platform for them to be seen. We are truly blessed by a God whose first act with humanity is creation!”

Festival de música y arte de One House une a cristianos creativos
Cientos de personas se reunieron esta primavera para una exhibición creativa del tercer festival de arte y música One House de Southern California Conference (SCC) en la iglesia de Temple City. «Nuestro objetivo para ese evento fue simplemente permitir un espacio seguro para que los jóvenes adultos creativos muestren sus dones y talentos», compartió Geoff Sewell, director del ministerio de jóvenes y adultos jóvenes de SCC.
Una tormenta inesperada amenazó con descarrilar el evento una hora antes de que comenzase, pero el trabajo en equipo dio vida al plan B. «Todo el equipo entró en acción con la ayuda de algunos de los asistentes al evento», recordó Sewell. «Lo que tardaron horas en montar, lo derribaron y lo volvieron a poner dentro del fellowship hall». Sewell también reconoció al pastor de la iglesia de Temple City, Brett Poynter, y al miembro de la iglesia, Teddy Raffijandi, quienes fueron fundamentales para ayudar a trasladar todo al interior y restablecer todo el lugar.
Dentro del fellowship hall, los asistentes y participantes disfrutaron de buena comida, música edificante y arte creativo. El evento destacó a muchas pequeñas empresas, músicos y artistas locales, ofreciendo a los creativos cristianos la oportunidad de mostrar los talentos que Dios les ha dado.
Jesus Noland, diseñador de videojuegos que organizó un stand donde los asistentes pudieron jugar a un juego creado por él, expresó su agradecimiento por el evento. «Creo que es increíble haber tenido la oportunidad de mostrar lo que produzco en el espacio cristiano adventista», compartió. «Tener un evento como este significa mucho, realmente lo hace. Contribuye en gran medida a mantenerme conectado con esta comunidad, y definitivamente me permite mostrar un lado diferente de mí mismo de lo que normalmente muestro como yo mismo cada sábado. Eso es muy impactante y muy útil para mí para seguir conectado con la iglesia».
«Ese tipo de creativos generalmente guardan sus talentos para sí mismos porque la “iglesia” realmente no sabe qué hacer con esas cosas», señaló Sewell. «¡Pero Dios sí! El festival de arte y música ofrece una plataforma para que se les vea. ¡Somos verdaderamente bendecidos por un Dios cuyo primer acto con la humanidad es la creación!»
