Last October, the San Bernardino 16th Street church commemorated its 95th anniversary with a four-day celebration. This celebration honored the profound influence of God in shaping the lives of its members and the surrounding community.
Wade Forde, the lead pastor for the past two years, emphasized the church's longstanding commitment as a community partner, consistently striving to improve the local area. Throughout its illustrious 95-year history, the church has been integral in fostering healing and positive impact within the community. Notable initiatives by 16th Street include establishing peace treaties among rival gangs, serving as a neutral territory during the 1990s and 2000s, annual toy and turkey donations, back-to-school and holiday events with giveaways, hosting health fairs, and collaborating with medical organizations for health screenings and assistance. A significant contribution involves running a weekly testing and vaccine clinic for the past three years, earning recognition and a visit from Governor Gavin Newsom to acknowledge their substantial community involvement.
"Our church is not just catering to the community, but we are members of the community," Forde emphasized. He explained that some members walk to the church or drive a few minutes, highlighting the church's close ties with its neighbors. This community-oriented approach has kept the church relevant and meaningful in the lives of its neighbors for nearly a century.
Beyond its extensive community outreach, the church thrives in its ministries, catering to children, youth, young adults, and older generations. Notably, the church has been a spiritual home for several prominent individuals, including four NFL players.
Forde explained that the vision for the 95th anniversary was to celebrate the church's achievements and remain prepared for its future contributions. The celebration included both former and present pastors preaching during a revival at the church. The event culminated in an inspiring Sabbath service that featured a plethora of talent from the church drum corps, an original poem from one of the charter members, praise dances, and even a puppet show. The church also took the time to recognize both community and congregational leaders. Saturday afternoon also featured a preaching and praise fest.
Moving forward, the church remains committed to discovering innovative ways to bring hope and healing to the community by spreading the love of Jesus.

Wade Forde, su pastor durante los últimos dos años, enfatizó el compromiso de larga data de la iglesia como socia comunitaria, esforzándose constantemente por mejorar el área. Forde explicó que la visión para el 95º aniversario era celebrar los logros de la iglesia y estar preparados para sus futuras contribuciones. La celebración incluyó a pastores anteriores y actuales predicando durante un reavivamiento en la iglesia. El evento culminó con un inspirador servicio sabático que contó con una plétora de talentos del cuerpo de tambores de la iglesia, un poema original de uno de los miembros fundadores, bailes de alabanza e incluso un espectáculo de títeres.
