The Moab church loves their community and continues to demonstrate it in different ways. Their agricultural ministry, Moab Manna, has now inspired a beautiful new outreach called the Harvest Basket.
Moab church member Valencia Miller was inspired by the Lord with a vision of what this new outreach should be. To make it happen, a lot of preparation needed to take place, making work for everyone in this little group of barely 20 church members to do.
The Lord opened doors for Valencia, encouraging her to network with multiple local farms, collecting donated produce to give away. Mary McElhaney knows a local business owner who agreed to share a corner of their commercial lot for an afternoon. Being a practical fellow, Sonny Ottinger offered to donate the use of his powerful truck and gooseneck trailer to haul the goods. The layout and decorations for the booth were arranged by Bill and Janice Foote, while Dave Seibert worked hours to dig potatoes.
Even the children and youth were involved, meeting together at a farm to harvest pumpkins out of the field. Many other helpers volunteered by preparing produce bags, sending out advertising, organizing and sharing literature and surveys, and filling in to help with numerous other details—especially praying for God’s leading and blessing.
Valencia prayed a very specific prayer, asking, “Lord please send five Bible study contacts from the Harvest Basket outreach.”
When the chilly October afternoon arrived, the final tally revealed that five farms had donated over 7,000 pounds of produce for this wonderful Harvest Basket giveaway. The advertisements informed the community they could pick up their produce anytime within a designated five-hour window. The variety of farm-fresh produce was impressive, offering nearly anything that a person could desire—including gigantic watermelons!
The community began lining up even before the group was ready to serve them. Each person was given a customized grocery sack (which served to ration the quantities given), a package of sharing material, and a survey. The cheerful, enthusiastic volunteers helped the folks load up their grocery sacks, and within 90 minutes they had run out of food! The Moab church had provided over 7,000 pounds of food to eager recipients.
The folks who came were overflowing with gratitude. There were questions: “How often do you do this?” “Who are you with?” “We can’t thank you enough!” “This is such a blessing!” “This is so inspiring!”
The responsibility for entering the results of the survey data fell to Tiffany. She created lists for follow-up as she processed the surveys, putting the Bible study interests in a separate group. When she finished the entries, she held up the pile and exclaimed, “Hey, look at this! There are five Bible study interests!” Praise the Lord!
We must never underestimate God’s interest in our prayers and His desire to utilize our talents and friendships for His kingdom. What is He calling you to do in your church and community?

El Señor le abrió las puertas a Valencia, animándola a establecer contactos con múltiples granjas locales, recolectando productos donados. Mary McElhaney conoce a un empresario que aceptó compartir un rincón de su lote comercial por una tarde. Siendo un tipo práctico, Sonny Ottinger se ofreció a donar el uso de su camión y remolque para transportar la mercancía. El diseño y las decoraciones para el stand fueron arreglados por Bill y Janice Foote, mientras que Dave Seibert trabajó horas cosechando papas.
Incluso los niños y jóvenes estuvieron involucrados, reuniéndose en una granja para cosechar calabazas. Muchos otros ayudantes se ofrecieron como voluntarios preparando bolsas de productos, enviando publicidad, organizando y compartiendo literatura y encuestas, y ayudando con muchos otros detalles, especialmente orando por la dirección y bendición de Dios.
Valencia tuvo una oración muy específica, pidiendo: «Señor, por favor envía cinco contactos de estudios bíblicos del proyecto Harvest Basket».
Cuando llegó la fría tarde de octubre, el recuento final reveló que cinco granjas habían donado más de 7,000 libras de productos para ese maravilloso proyecto Harvest Basket. Los anuncios informaron a la comunidad que podían recoger sus productos en cualquier momento dentro de un período designado de cinco horas. La variedad de productos frescos de granja era impresionante, ofreciendo casi todo lo que una persona pudiese desear, ¡incluyendo gigantescas sandías!
La comunidad comenzó a alinearse incluso antes de que el grupo estuviese listo para atenderles. A cada persona se le dio una bolsa de supermercado personalizada (que servía para racionar las cantidades dadas), un paquete de material informativo y una encuesta. Los alegres y entusiastas voluntarios ayudaron a la gente a cargar sus bolsas de supermercado, ¡y en 90 minutos se habían quedado sin comida! La iglesia de Moab proporcionó a la comunidad más de 7,000 libras de alimentos.
La gente que vino estaba desbordante de gratitud. Hubo preguntas y expresiones de agradecimiento: «¿Con qué frecuencia hacen esto?» «¡No podemos agradecerte lo suficiente!» «¡Esto es una bendición!»
La responsabilidad de ingresar los resultados de los datos de la encuesta recayó en Tiffany.
