On October 3rd, 2022, La Sierra Academy (LSA) celebrated its centennial birthday. Students, support staff, and faculty spent the first hour of the school day reflecting on the milestone.
Iki Taimi, La Sierra University lead pastor, opened with a homily and encouraged students, “You are the dreams of the pioneers of 100 years ago. Be the best ‘you’ you can be.”
LSA opened its doors to 84 students on October 3, 1922. General Conference President A.G. Daniells christened LSA on its first day. “You folks who have established this place have struggled hard, and you have many struggles before you, but you have made a wonderful beginning.”*
In 1946, a fire brought the elementary school building to ashes. However, through that struggle, LSA was moved and rebuilt at its current location, where it continues to thrive.
Elizabeth Muñoz Beard, principal of LSA, aims to develop the academy with further curricula goals and technological initiatives, such as updating the computer labs, providing laptops to all students, and expanding the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) college and career readiness program for all grades.
The true and honest metric of exceptional Adventist education, however, is the institution’s impact on its students.
“La Sierra has impacted my life by introducing me to what Christianity is,” said Isabelle Ragsac, class of 2023. “I grew up in a Christian home, but I never truly understood it until I experienced it. The opportunities that LSA has given me have strengthened my faith tremendously.”
“It’s rare that you find a place where people are genuinely interested in you as a person and take time apart from what they already put into class time and prepare for the students whenever they need it,” agreed Miguel Ojeda, class of 2023. “It’s an open-door policy, and I like that.”
As the program came to its conclusion, everyone in attendance participated in a familiar birthday ritual: the consumption of cake. With one heart and with renewed endurance, they prepared to continue the race marked before them.

La carrera que nos caracteriza: La Sierra Academy celebra 100 de educación adventista
El 3 de octubre de 2022, La Sierra Academy (LSA) celebró su centenario. Los estudiantes, el personal de apoyo y la facultad pasaron la primera hora del día escolar reflexionando sobre el hito.
Iki Taimi, pastor de la La Sierra University Church, abrió con una homilía y animó a los estudiantes: «Tú eres el sueño de los pioneros de hace 100 años. Sé el mejor “tu” que puedas ser».
LSA abrió sus puertas a 84 estudiantes el 3 de octubre de 1922. El presidente de la Conferencia General, A.G. Daniells, bautizó a LSA en su primer día. «Ustedes, que han establecido este lugar, han luchado duro y tienen muchas luchas por delante, pero han tenido un comienzo maravilloso».
En 1946, un incendio redujo a cenizas el edificio de la escuela primaria. Sin embargo, a lo largo de esa lucha, LSA fue trasladada y reconstruida en su ubicación actual, donde continúa prosperando.
Elizabeth Muñoz Beard, directora de LSA, tiene como blanco desarrollar la academia con objetivos curriculares adicionales e iniciativas tecnológicas, como actualizar los laboratorios de computación, proporcionar computadoras portátiles a todos los estudiantes y expandir el programa de preparación universitaria y profesional Advancement Through Individual Determination (AVID) para todos los grados.

Cuando el programa llegó a su conclusión, todos los asistentes participaron en un ritual familiar de cumpleaños: comer pastel. Con un solo corazón y con renovada resistencia, se prepararon para continuar la carrera marcada ante ellos.
